MEMORIAL DONATIONS

Patrons and recent visitors to The Green Free Library have probably noticed the new bench on the front porch. This bench is a Memorial Gift from a loved one's family.

The library accepts many kinds of memorial donations. The most common,is a book memorial. In this instance the "giver" or donor, may contribute money for the purchase of a book that will be added to the library's collection. The book will have a special bookplate attached to the inside with information such as the person memorialized and the name of the donor. An acknowledgement card will be sent to the memorialized's family, or significant other.

The donor is usually asked if they know of any subject areas, or specific titles they would like, otherwise a book is chosen that the library staff thinks there is a need for. Memorial books circulate just like other books, and are greatly appreciated.

On occasion, other items such as the bench are purchased as memorials. Two trees on the front lawn have also been given. Plaques are applied to these items as well.

Memorials may also given for living people as well. In this case the book, or item is given in Honor of, instead of In Memory of. Honor items are given as thank yous, as birthday gifts, and any other occasion you want to consider.

Large memorials, gifts and donations that are not in the form of cash must be approved by the Director and the Board first, because of limited space and the historic value of the property.
