FOSTERING CREATIVITY AT THE LIBRARY

Last year The Green Free Library, along with several other libraries in the state, was lucky enough to receive grant money donated by Preschool Connections and their Public Library Resources for Infant & Toddle Programs. They receive their funding through the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries and are supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under provisions of the LST act. With this money the library added several new items to its childrens room to encourage (and entice) young children and their parents to utilzes the library's resources.

Even a year later, children are still enjoying these wonderful new items. Creativity is definitely being fostered and enhanced as you can see by these pictures of a "fort" that was made on the sunporch by an industrious and anonymous little visitor.

The Green Free Library has added several new DVDs to its growing collection. DVDs are free to borrow once you have a permanent library card. There is a late fee of $1.00 per DVD per day if the DVD is returned after its generous one week due date. Some people have recently complained about this charge. The solution is simple-either bring back the DVDs on time, or don’t take them out! All DVDs are clearly marked with this policy, and are stamped with the date they are due upon check-out. It is the patron’s responsibility to adhere to this policy, library staff will not call unless the DVD is seriously overdue. That is why we only lend DVDs and VHS tapes to adult cardholders. This is the same policy most public libraries in PA utilize.
