THIS WEEK AT THE LIBRARY

December has been a busy month at The Green Free Library. Over 400 visitors (regular patrons as well as guests), stopped by the open house, hosted by The Friends of The Green Free Library on Dickens of a Christmas.

Santa arrived to a rousing chorus of “Here Comes Santa Claus” last Wednesday during Story Hour. Santa read to the crowd, then the group split in to two smaller groups. While one group pranced off to make a special Christmas craft, the remaining group took turns sitting on Santa’s lap for pictures, and to get in some last minute gift suggestions for the jolly old elf to deliver! Then of course, the groups switched places so everyone got a turn at all the fun.

The library staff has been busy as Christmas elves accepting donations for the annual appeal, and for the Library Angel tree. There is still time to contribute to either project, or both! Remember the library is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

There will be no Story Hour for the rest of December, so kids and their families can prepare for the upcoming merriment.

I still need to verify if the knitting clubs will be meeting, and will post as soon as I get the word. If you have any questions, fell free to call the library during normal business hours of 10:00 AM-8:00 PM Monday-Thursday, and 10:00 AM-5:00 PM on Friday & Saturday. The phone number is 570-724-4876

REMEMBER

If the weather is bad, please call or check the website before venturing out on slippery roads to see if the library has a delayed opening, or is closed for the day. This information is also available on local radio stations, and the automated message on the answering machine if the library is closed. Again, the phone number is 570-724-4876.

Also consider that library fines, especially for DVDS/VHS tapes are only waived if the library is closed. This is Tioga County after all, and just because there are bad roads in one township doesn’t necessarily mean there are bad roads in all the townships. Only you know what the roads can be like in your area, if bad weather is forecasted, either bring your movies back early, don’t check any out until after the storm, or pay the fine if the library is open and you choose not to come out to return them. The staff of The Green Free Library thanks you for not arguing about fines you have incurred through your own decision!
