THIS WEEK AT THE LIBRARY

School begins on Tuesday August 31, in the Wellsboro Area School District, the area serviced by The Green Free Library. If your child does not yet have a library card, know is the time to get him or her one so it is ready to check our books for AR, or research. Any PA resident with a valid PA driver’s license or Civilian ID may apply for a library card for themselves, or their children under the age of 17. Students 17 and over must bring their valid PA DL or Civilian ID. Military ID for active Military and their dependent’s is also acceptable. If you live in PA but do not have a PA driver’s license, but you OWN property bring your valid driver’s license from out of state and a real-estate tax notice or proof of payment. If you do not own property and do not have a valid PA Driver’s license you may put down a refundable $25 deposit to obtain a library card with full borrowing and Internet privileges.

Also remember that Tioga County residence must now have a valid GFL library card to access the public Internet computers. A library card number is not required to use the Wi-Fi, but a security code that is changed periodically is required, and there is no printing capability from laptops. Library computers may be used for a guaranteed period of 45 minutes, with extensions in 10- minute increments up to 3 times, if there is no one in the queue and at least one computer is free when a patrons 45 minutes are up. What does this mean? It means if you or your child are writing a paper- bring a thumb drive or CD-Rom to burn your work to if you don’t think you can finish in 45 minutes! Library staff are not responsible if your work is lost when the timer expires. You are prohibited from saving your work to the library computers hard-drive. Not only does this slow down the computers, but with the computerized sign-up system, you may not get the same computer the next time you sign-up.

Printing from the public computers is available. The cost is 10 cents per page and the printer is black and white only. Also the paper size is limited to 8 ½ X 11. Staff will insert special paper into the printer for resumes or research papers, but no card stock may be used. It is advisable to use the print-preview option when ever possible as what ever you print, you must pay for!

THURSDAY

The First Thursday Writers Group will meet Thursday, September 02 at their regular time upstairs in the library! Still waiting for them to let me know who is now in charge!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Green printing companies use recycled papers and vegetable inks. They are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) and ISO 14001 certified. Following the paper purchase policy of government, they make sure that papers used in printing are not made up of trees in endangered rain forests
