DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

Spring ahead, Fall back. Did everyone remember to set their clocks back one hour on November 1, 2009? This controversial and somewhat annoying practice was originally started to reduce the usage of incandescent lighting. Modern DST was proposed in 1895 by a New Zealand entomologist named George Vernon Hudson. Some people like it, some people don’t. It clearly benefits the retail industry, sports venues and any other activities that require the presence of sunlight after normal working hours. It causes problems for farmers, evening entertainment and occupations tied to the sun. In our neck of the woods it can be very dark at 6:30 in the morning, a time when many of us are getting up to prepare for work and school. The only good thing I have found about it is the extra hour of sleep I gain in the fall.

If you want to learn more about DST and have the time, check out this site!

Hours for The Green Free Library are M-Thurs 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
and Fri & Sat 10:00 AM-5:00 PM
