NEW BOOKS ADDED

These are the titles that have recently been added to the collection at The Green Free Library. Several of the books have been purchased with memorial donations. The library accepts donations for books and other approved items in memory of and in honor of people and pets. Please check with the director first, before purchasing a title yourself to make sure the library doesn't already own it if you have a title in mind, otherwise the library will purchase a book with the donated funds, in the desired subject area. A special book-plate will be added to the book (or other item), and notifications will be sent to indicated parties.

DIRECTOR ATTENDS BEA

Remember the early days of the Internet, when everyone bemoaned the death of the book and conventional printing? How wrong they were! Leslie Wishard, the director of The Green Free Library, along with several other local librarians, recently attended BEA or BookExpo America in New York City.

BEA is a conference lasting 3 days, where booksellers, librarians and educators from all over the country have access to over 500 authors and their works, and 1500 exhibitors in the publishing industry. It is the largest publishing event in North America!

Famous authors mingle with those just starting out. Thousands of books are available for purchase, and get this-for free! Authors are even on hand to autograph their works, even big names like Sara Ferguson, James Patterson, Ridley Pearson Tony Hawk and Barbara Streisand- who was also the opening night keynote speaker. And for those of us from a certain era, Rick Springfield!!!

Here are some photos of the event.

We're not in Wellsboro anymore!

Do you teach boat safety or scuba-diving? Anything relating to water, lakes, oceans, streams, rivers, fish and other freshwater or sea-life would be appreciated. Please contact the library at 570-724-4876 if you think you can help! The summer program will run Wednesdays from June 23rd through August 4th and programs are usually scheduled around 10:00 AM.

LOCAL AUTHORS

Zeke Wilson, author of the autobiographical The Eighth Round, and his daughter, Florence Wilson, author of the fictional Teenage Vampire, visited The Green Free Library Thursday, Jan. 14.

Zeke, a former professional boxer, spoke about his experiences involving racial discrimination that led not only to his writing the book, but also "to set a federal precedent for all legal findings of same-race discrimination," according to Zeke. Florence, 15, talked about writing the first of what will be a five-book series to be released over the next two years.

The father and daughter team, both of whom are from northcentral Pennsylvania, also presented signed copies of their books to Library Director Leslie A. Wishard. The books will be available in the collection soon.
