Remember the early days of the Internet, when everyone bemoaned the death of the book and conventional printing? How wrong they were! Leslie Wishard, the director of The Green Free Library, along with several other local librarians, recently attended BEA or BookExpo America in New York City.
BEA is a conference lasting 3 days, where booksellers, librarians and educators from all over the country have access to over 500 authors and their works, and 1500 exhibitors in the publishing industry. It is the largest publishing event in North America!
Famous authors mingle with those just starting out. Thousands of books are available for purchase, and get this-for free! Authors are even on hand to autograph their works, even big names like Sara Ferguson, James Patterson, Ridley Pearson Tony Hawk and Barbara Streisand- who was also the opening night keynote speaker. And for those of us from a certain era, Rick Springfield!!!
Here are some photos of the event.
